A Year in Review

A few nights ago, on Twitter, I was reflecting on some of the work we did on The Heinemann Podcast in 2017. The podcast is still a new space for us to learn in, we covered many, many, topics. A series of those topics, though, were quite powerful. These special conversations are possibly the most important work I’ve ever produced.

I thought I’d go beyond the tweets and share all of the podcasts in one place. THIS one (below) is the most important interview I’ve ever produced.

Dismantling Racism in Education

This next one (from early December) is just as important. The above interview was inspired by The Heinemann Fellows. Their work took on the focus of teachers of color. As the Fellows begin to finish their work, they also have been reflective on the importance of creating space for teachers of color. This conversation focused on the need for and needs of teachers of color:

Since I’m reflecting, I want to include this conversation on supporting LGBTQ students and teachers:

All of these stem from the influence & brilliance of without whom I wouldn’t have the education or the courage to have the conversations or ask the questions. Of our series together, this one stays with me the most (though they’re all amazing).

Cornelius Minor and being an advocate for your students

While I’m proud of the work I did in the news world, I think it’s safe to say these conversations are the most important work I’ve ever done. Frankly, these conversations are prime time worthy. I hope my news colleagues listen to them too. I hope everyone, everywhere, listens. I look forward to seeing what conversations this work inspires next.

Note, over on the actual Heinemann Podcast, we’ll be doing a full year in review. This review was a more personal reflection.
